workshops

Who will be teaching the workshops?

That would be me, Abigail, the sole person behind Curiously Contrary!

All of the workshop projects have been designed and created by me, so who knows better how to teach them?

I have been teaching for over 10 years and have been running creative workshops since 2016.

I am a self taught artist and sell my work at festivals, events and through retail spaces in the North East of England.

I was the first certified Powertex tutor in the North East of England and I was also a member of the Powertex UK Design Team for two years, writing monthly blogs including step-by-step tutorials for original projects.

I hold teaching qualifications and an enhanced DBS certificate.

Will I complete my project in the workshop?

I have designed all of my workshops so that you will be able to complete the project within the timescale of the workshop.

Your creation will also be dry by the end of the workshop, however, it is likely that it may still be slightly soft. Therefore please handle and transport your creation with care - it will harden up over the next day or two.

If your creation is destined for outdoors, please make sure you keep it indoors for approximately 3 weeks to ensure it has fully cured and is able to withstand the unpredictability of the British weather.

Do I need to bring anything with me to the workshop?

The short answer is 'no'.

I believe that creative workshops should be fun, worry free spaces where you can totally absorb yourself in the creative process. Therefore I make sure that everything needed to create your project is provided for you. This includes aprons, gloves, a vast array of fabrics and embellishments appropriate to the project being undertaken.

However, if you would like to bring something with you to include in your project to make it more special/unique to you, then please do.

If you are attending a full day workshop, then you may like to bring a packed lunch. You will receive further details about your specific workshop a few days before which will include information about lunch arrangements/nearby places to purchase lunch.

Do you run workshops for private groups?

Yes, I can run my workshops almost anywhere, so if you can provide a venue and a group of people, then I can run you a workshop.

These could be for an established group that meets regularly at a venue (e.g. craft group, WI, ) or for a private party in your home (e.g. birthday party, hen/stag party, etc). A quote will be provided based on the number of people participating and project you would like to complete.

I also provide sessions for children (including activities for children's parties), suitable for primary school age upwards. These have been run in schools and are also suitable for home-schooled children and other children's groups.

I run workshops for businesses or other corporate organisations, as team building sessions or as a method to promote mindfulness and wellbeing in the workplace.

If you are interested in a private workshop, please get in contact with what you have in mind and I will be able to provide a quote.

Do you provide 1:1 tuition?

Yes, I provide tuition on a 1:1 or small group basis. This is perfect if you would prefer to have a session which is tailored to your needs/experience level or if there are particular techniques you would like to learn or particular projects you would like to complete.

Please contact me to discuss your requirements in more detail.
